Public Preview: Major version upgrades (MVU) for Azure Database for PostgreSQL elastic clusters

MVUs are now available for elastic clusters in Azure Database for PostgreSQL. You can upgrade an existing elastic cluster to a supported newer PostgreSQL version in place without provisioning a replacement cluster, migrating distributed data, or changing your application connection endpoint. This managed upgrade experience helps reduce the downtime, complexity, and operational effort associated with traditional migration-based upgrades.

You can use MVUs to keep distributed PostgreSQL workloads on supported versions and adopt the latest PostgreSQL and Citus performance improvements, capabilities, and security updates. By extending the Flexible Server upgrade experience to elastic clusters, you can manage the version lifecycle of sharded workloads more efficiently while retaining your existing cluster topology and configuration.
